Course Overview
Hazardous materials are part of everyday life—but transporting them introduces serious safety risks that require strict compliance with federal regulations. This course provides a clear and practical understanding of how hazardous materials are classified, identified, and safely transported under Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines.
Participants will begin by learning what qualifies as hazardous materials, including common examples found across industries. The course explains how these materials are categorized and how placards and labels are used to communicate risk during transport.
The training also covers critical regulatory requirements for operating HAZMAT vehicles. Learners will understand the rules for parking, routing, refueling, and conducting pre-trip inspections. Emphasis is placed on real-world application to help drivers and organizations avoid violations and reduce risk.
In addition, the course outlines the registration and permitting process required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), including obtaining a USDOT number, hazardous materials safety permits, and proper insurance documentation. Participants will also learn about the HAZMAT endorsement required for commercial drivers.
Designed for commercial drivers, fleet managers, and logistics personnel, this course strengthens compliance, improves operational safety, and helps prevent incidents involving hazardous materials transportation.
