Course Overview

Exposure to bloodborne pathogens is not limited to healthcare settings. Workers across a wide range of industries—including manufacturing, construction, retail, and facility services—may encounter blood or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM) as part of their job duties. Without proper training, these situations can present serious health risks.

This course provides a practical, real-world understanding of how bloodborne pathogen exposure occurs and how to prevent it. Learners will explore the most common pathogens of concern, including Hepatitis B (HBV), Hepatitis C (HCV), and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), along with the ways these pathogens are transmitted in workplace environments.

The training emphasizes a layered approach to protection, including engineering controls, safe work practices, and proper use of personal protective equipment. Participants will also gain a clear understanding of OSHA requirements, including the importance of exposure control plans, training, and vaccination programs where applicable.
