Course Overview
Lead is a naturally occurring metal that has been used for thousands of years due to its durability, corrosion resistance, and versatility. While lead continues to serve important industrial purposes, it is also recognized as a significant health hazard when exposure occurs at unsafe levels.
Lead can be found in a variety of places, including older buildings, paint, soil, water systems, manufacturing operations, construction sites, and certain consumer products. Workers involved in construction, renovation, maintenance, manufacturing, demolition, painting, and inspection activities may face an increased risk of exposure. However, lead exposure is not limited to the workplace. Individuals living in older homes, using lead-containing products, or participating in certain hobbies may also be at risk.
The Lead Exposure: Prevention and Response Training Course provides employees with a practical understanding of lead hazards, health risks, exposure pathways, and prevention strategies. Participants will learn how lead enters the body, the effects it can have on various organ systems, and the importance of following established safety procedures to minimize risk.
This training also examines the federal regulations established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to help protect workers and the public from lead exposure.
Topics covered include:
- What lead is and why it is used
- Common sources of lead exposure
- Health effects associated with lead poisoning
- High-risk occupations and environments
- Exposure prevention methods
- Personal protective measures
- OSHA and EPA lead regulations
- Employer and employee responsibilities
Whether you work in construction, manufacturing, maintenance, environmental services, or another industry where lead hazards may be present, this course provides essential knowledge to help protect yourself and others from exposure.
